Description:

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Investment exposure on infrastructure and / or private equity deals, preferably with a focus on the renewables / climate sector
  • Highly numerate with developed quantitative capabilities. Demonstrable financial analysis, modeling and evaluation skills are critical. A deep understanding of corporate finance, accounting, leveraged finance / project fi nance modeling and equity structuring is preferred.
  • Preference for candidates who have participated in a corporate finance analyst program at an investment bank and / or with buyside experience, seeking candidates with 3+ years of work experience
  • Strong team values and someone who can thrive in a collaborative and entrepreneurial work environment
  • Confident in presenting and interacting with investors and management
  • Able to compliment the strong culture imbedded in both BlackRock and specific to the Climate Infrastructure platform
  • Able to collaborate with teams of internal and external resources providing commercial judgement across legal, tax, and financial analysis

Responsibilities:

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The BlackRock Climate Infrastructure Team is looking to hire a junior investment professional in Sydney. This is an opportunity to join the investment team as an Associate with responsibility for deal execution, financial analysis, financial modelling, commercial negotiation, and portfolio management. The successful candidate will be investing capital on behalf of BlackRock’s global Climate Infrastructure funds with a mandate to invest in Australia and other Asia Pacific markets, including Korea, Japan, Taiwan and New Zealand.
BlackRock’s Climate Infrastructure team was founded in 2011 and has since raised and managed c.$11bn (USD) of capital on a global basis. This capital has been invested in a range of assets and companies globally, with a focus on solar, wind, battery and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The BlackRock Climate Infrastructure team comprises around 80 people in offices around the world.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Financial and technical analysis: building and running financial models, specifically being able to check, understand and dissect financial models to analyze project opportunities and carry out valuations both at a project and overall Fund level, using both external third-party models and internal financial tools.
  • Understand the following technical risks and implications for investment: construction, technology, grid, macro factors, regulatory regime and electricity pricing.
  • Portfolio management: management of investments in the portfolio, including ongoing interaction with the Technical, Finance and Operations teams. Leading efforts in portfolio optimization activities, such as contract renegotiation, management of commercial and credit-related issues, increasing revenue streams, etc.
  • Investment Execution: executing and managing renewable energy and climate infrastructure project and company investments. This will include commercial negotiations, leading due diligence, financial review, presenting to investment committee and understanding investment risks from a commercial, technical, and financial perspective.
