Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated psychologist to work across Learning Disability Services in Brent, including into our Assessment and Treatment Units at the Kingswood Centre. As a valued member of the inpatient and community Learning Disability multi-disciplinary teams, you will provide psychological expertise at an individual, team and system level which will enable people with learning disabilities accessing our services to enjoy valued and meaningful lives.
The ideal candidate will be have a passion for improving the lives of people with learning disabilities through psychological interventions, using trauma informed approaches and Positive Behaviour Support.
The post holder will be a part of the wider network of psychologists working in Learning Disability services within the trust. You will have opportunities to develop your own areas of interest, through formal training in therapeutic modalities (e.g. family therapy, EMDR), CPD opportunities and research opportunities.
The post holder will provide a clinical psychology service to people with learning disabilities either admitted to our inpatient units at the Kingswood Centre, or accessing the Brent Community Learning Disability Team.
This will include providing psychological assessment, formulation and interventions, both directly and indirectly to manage people’s psychological needs and contribute to enhancing their quality of life. This may include assessment of learning disability, autism and dementia, offering direct psychological therapies, and supporting the development and implementation of behavioural interventions. The post holder will offer consultation to colleagues and staff from their own and other services to support the psychological needs of people with learning disabilities and other complex needs.
Engagement with other services to support people with learning disabilities accessing mainstream services, and to support safe and effective discharge planning is another important element of this role.
The post holder will monitor and evaluate their work, contribute to service developments and audits and will have opportunities to get involved in research.
The post holder will offer supervision to trainee and assistant practitioner psychologists, and multi-disciplinary colleagues working within a psychological framework.
