Description:

HUC provides the NHS111 and Out of Hours GP service to over 4.5 million patients across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, West Essex and the South West of England. If so, our 111 Clinical Advisor role could be for you. The role is an excellent opportunity to build on your Nursing or Paramedic experience and to continue to deliver outstanding patient care without the physical demand of acute work.
A day in the life
You will be assessing patients over the phone, using the NHS Pathways systems alongside your existing clinical knowledge and expertise.
No two shifts will be the same; the 111 service receives calls ranging from minor ailments to life threatening emergencies.
You will use your clinical knowledge to signpost patients to the most appropriate level of care; this could include an emergency ambulance, GP appointment or home management advice.
You will be surrounded by supportive colleagues and provide clinical support to our Health Advisors whilst on shift.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPLE TASKS WILL INCLUDE:

Clinical
Applying your clinical expertise to assess an individual’s health condition.
Working within the NHS Pathways system content to advise service users, their representatives and Health Advisors.
To ensure that every patient interaction is conducted appropriately, with an emphasis on the provision of clear, evidence-based advice and signposting to an appropriate service.
Quality assurance and safety
To understand, adhere to and promote the principles of information governance in relation to access to clinical records, the handling and access to and communication of patient identifiable information.
To understand, adhere to and promote local policies for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, while ensuring referrals to the appropriate services are made in a timely manner according to policy.
To understand, adhere to and promote the principles of risk management in relation to patient and staff wellbeing, the physical environment, and the systems in use. To follow local guidance for action and reporting upon identification of a risk.
To promote local best practice in relation to clinical assessment and provision of advice to service users and their representatives.
To be aware of HUC’s performance criteria and adhere to this.

Able to commit to 8 weeks of full time training
Able to commit to 1 of our rolling rota patterns; we have a variety of patterns to cover our 24-hour operational period. Please note all of our rota patterns include an element of weekend working.
Able to clearly and confidently communicate with callers from all walks of life
Able to adapt to a caller’s individual needs
Passionate about providing a level of service you would recommend to your friends and family
Competent with the use of IT
