We are pleased to announce that we have a band 6 vacancy in our PCCU education team.
Are you an experienced Paediatric Critical Care Nurse seeking a new challenge? Do you have experience in the supporting, orientation and teaching of new to PCCU/newly qualified nursing staff? Are you passionate and enthusiastic about nurse education, nurturing newly appointed staff and delivering critical care education in the clinical environment?
We are a 14 bedded Paediatric Critical Care Unit comprising of 8 Paediatric Intensive Care beds and 6 Paediatric High Dependency beds. We care for children under a wide range of specialities including Major Trauma, spinal, renal and work closely alongside the Children’s Medical Emergency Transport (CoMET) service for the East Midlands region. We are supported by the Paediatric Critical Care Education Team and working alongside Nottingham University, providing learning opportunities for postgraduate nurses.
We are committed to supporting you and offer various professional development opportunities to enhance your critical care nursing skills and knowledge. We will offer a bespoke induction programme which is supported by the Paediatric Critical Care Education Team.
We have recently achieved ANCC Pathway to Excellence accreditation and are currently the only the only Children’s Hospital in Europe to have achieved this.

The post holder will work flexibly as part of the education team and will act as deputy to the band 7 sister.
You will also be required to maintain a clinical role and take charge of the unit and ensure that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered is maintain to a high standard.
You will have a passion for education and supporting learners in the PCCU environment, working alongside staff to nurture, encourage and help grow skills and confidence.
The post holder will be expected to help develop educational resource and implement them in clinical practice, support the PCCU education team in the provision of foundation and specialist programmes.
You will be led by the band 7 education team to meet set objectives.
You will be an effective leader and role model and committed to delivering the nursing strategy.
The post holder will act as Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse. They will be required to support your team leader to line manage a team of nurses and non-clinical staff, carrying out yearly appraisals and ensuring staff training is up to date.
You will be a main point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives and staff acting as a resource for problems, needs and able to clearly present patients view to others.
Nottingham Childrens Hospital is set within the vibrant city of Nottingham known for its many historical sites. The Childrens hospital is housed within the Queens medical centre campus and has 116 inpatient beds across 8 inpatient wards covering all specialities.
We are a major trauma centre and the Children’s critical care unit works closely with the emergency department in providing frontline care for trauma patients.
This post is essential to safe and effective running of the PCCU ward area as the role entails delivery of direct patient care as well as ensuring that consistently safe and effective care is delivered to patients and their families; this incorporates the provision of emotional support.
In addition, this role provides leadership and management support to the band 7 and PCCU Matron and team to ensure safe, effective running of the PCCU ward on a regular basis.

Have responsibility for managing staff with the support from the band 7 and PCCU Matron to ensure the standards and quality of care and the environment in which they are delivered are maintained and improved.
Ensure high quality, evidence–based care is offered to patients and, in collaboration with the band 7 and PCCU Matron, identify the common issues which affect the quality of care devising clear action plans to address any shortcomings ensuring agreed action is undertaken. Includes developing, implementing and maintaining patient care policies and procedures, clinical guidelines and protocols where appropriate.
In collaboration with all members of multi-professional team, ensure that the baby, child and young person and family have a satisfactory experience by evaluating patient processes and redesigning the pathway of care – including external agencies and also other hospitals.
In conjunction with the team leader support the Appraisal/Individual Performance Review process, undertake training needs analysis for a defined group of staff and share with the Practice Development Nurse for collation annually, to contribute to and inform the PCCU training plan
