Description:

Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow (SHO) post in Breast & General Surgery commencing as soon as possible and is fixed term for 12 months. The post offers excellent experience and developmental opportunities in elective oncoplastic breast surgery and emergency General Surgery (although it is currently not recognized for training by the Postgraduate Dean). The department is committed to support the appointee by offering them extensive opportunities to develop their portfolio, with a view to their successful progression onto the registrar level. This post is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced surgical trainee with ambition to progress to registrar level.
As part of the Health Board’s strategic collaboration with Bangor University, individuals with an interest in teaching and research who can demonstrate and agree a possible contribution to the School can be considered and nominated for recognition through the University’s process for granting honorary titles and help to deliver our shared vision for the North Wales School of Medicine and Health.
The appointee will work with the breast team managing ward patients, assisting in theatre and assisting in clinics. They will cover the general surgical on call rota. They will have the opportunity to progress clinically to the standard of competence needed for appointment to higher surgical training, or other registrar level posts. They will have their own educational supervisor. Active participation in surgical audit and clinical research projects will be encouraged. The appointee will have the opportunity to develop teaching skills within the department, and also through the undergraduate teaching programme.
Study leave will be encouraged and supported on an equivalent basis to that which applies to educationally approved posts, with ATLS courses are available locally, if required. Assistance with exam preparation (e.g. MRCS) and interview practice will be provided.
Glan Clwyd Hospital enjoys excellent clinical and postgraduate facilities, with an extensive library.
This post currently operates a 1:11 full-shift Rota with prospective cover for annual and study leave.
