Description:

We welcome applicants with a background in Medicine, Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or Surgery. The successful candidate will be appointed to a core trainee level rota. Previous critical care experience is desirable but not essential.
All applicants must have full GMC registration and MBBS or equivalent. Desirable qualifications for this post include MRCP,MRCS, Primary FRCA or MCEM (or equivalents)
We provide support & direct admission from our busy Emergency Department (which sees upwards of 130,000 patients annually), and we take complex external referrals. The department runs a 24/7 nurse led outreach service, which is supported by the ICU doctors. The department also runs a fortnightly critical care follow-up clinic.
The unit has specialist interest in long term weaning, psychology of critical illness, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, infection control, peri-operative medicine & emergency medicine, and has expertise in areas such as echocardiography, diagnostic ultrasound, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, experimental, translational and health services research. Successful candidates will be supported to seek experience in these areas & will be supported in their preparation for speciality exams in Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery or Emergency Medicine, through established educational collaboration with these departments at UCLH.

Our critical care service encompasses 4 units split across 3 sites:
University College Hospital – Medical critical care and PACU
University College Hospitals Grafton Way Building- Haematology
University College Hospitals at Westmoreland Street - PACU
Across our units we provide support direct admission from our busy Emergency Department, complex external referrals and our elective and emergency surgical pathways.
The units have consultant cover 24/7, onsite day times Monday to Sunday. Alongside fellowship work there is also the opportunity to be involved with a variety of QI projects, teaching and service development.
