Description:

During job planned sessions, the post-holder will provide anaesthetic cover for operating lists, emergency theatre, Critical Care or obstetrics as specified on the weekly rota or as otherwise requested by the lead Consultant or their deputy. The post-holder will cover lists alone or with a Consultant Anaesthetist. If working with a Consultant, the post-holder will be supervised by, and follow the instructions of the Consultant. If working alone, the post-holder will seek the guidance of the duty Consultant when clinically indicated.
The post-holder may also cover lists alongside other anaesthetic doctors, including trainees. The post-holder may be required to provide cover for resuscitation, critical care or obstetric analgesia and anaesthesia depending on the needs of the sub-division, and it is expected that they take account of any relevant protocols or guidelines issued within the sub-divisions when arriving at clinical decisions. This post is offered as a CT3 Equivalent post, and sessions in areas such as perioperative medicine and chronic pain can be accommodated according to the training needs of the individual. A 3-month block of Critical Care Medicine can be provided for those who would require this
