Description:

Applications are invited for the posts of Emergency Medicine –Middle Grade Clinical Fellow at the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed term post commencing as soon as possible. Applicants must have full registration with the GMC and at least two years post foundation experience in ACCS specialities (Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, Paediatrics, Intensive Care, Anaesthetics). MRCEM/MRCPCH/MRCP are desirable.
This post is designed for an experienced doctor an interest in gaining additional skills in Emergency Medicine. It would also be suitable for paediatricians with an interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. You will work at middle grade level with 20% of clinical time to be spent in an area of interest (ie ultrasound, paediatrics, musculoskeletal or simulation). £500 of study leave funding will be provided and the post holder will be encouraged to attend relevant courses or conferences. We can be flexible to accommodate candidates with particular personal circumstances or clinical interests.
The Emergency Medicine that we practice is extremely varied and educationally stimulating. The experienced gained in this post will stand the post-holder in good stead for any future career plans. Daily, we manage life-threatening medical and vascular emergencies, limb threatening injuries and we are adept in managing the complex needs of older patients.

EXPECTATIONS WOULD BE:

Working in the Emergency Department at middle grade level
There will be the opportunity to participate in departmental teaching, quality & safety and quality improvement projects. Participation in a local or national audit is expected.
A study budget of £500 will be available for relevant courses, conferences and qualifications
20% of clinical time can be spent in an area of interest ie Paediatrics, Simulation, Teaching or Quality Improvement.
Subject to individual negotiation there will be the opportunity to take up to 2 months of unpaid leave during the year to pursue individual interests. This is in addition to annual and study leave.
We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic middle grades to join our team. We have an excellent track record with Senior Clinical Fellow posts for Higher Specialist Trainees.

We have two main hospital sites: Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital. Maternity Services are centralised at the maternity unit on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site which includes our neonatal unit. The main theatres and emergency admissions are located at Bradford Royal Infirmary while St Luke’s Hospital provides a large outpatient facility and wards for therapy and rehabilitation. In 2021/22 our Trust services delivered 5,525 babies, performed 13,102 operations in theatre and handled 423,154 outpatient appointments. We had 108,503 attendances at our Emergency Department.
We are very proud of our excellent teaching record with junior doctors, clinical fellows and nurse practitioners and if appointed you will be included in the numerous education and quality improvement opportunities we offer. There are many educational events that you might wish to contribute to, including quality improvement projects and in-situ simulation. Previous clinical fellows have presented at national conferences for Simulation and Musculoskeletal Medicine and have achieved multiple publications.
As an ED middle grade your role will be in the initial assessment and treatment of the ill and injured patient as well as providing clinical advice to more junior ED doctors and trainee nurse practitioners, where appropriate. You will have the opportunity to be part of the Trauma Team within the ED and to be the nominated Resus or Paediatric doctor of the day. The clinical experience you gain will be diverse and interesting.
Successful applicants will be welcomed into our vibrant and friendly multi-disciplinary team. There is a strong emphasis in team-work in our ED and we work closely in collaboration with the Acute Medical Unit, Ambulatory Care Unit and Intensive Care.
