Description:
The post holder will attend clinics, theatres and participate in the on-call rota. The Ophthalmology Department is purpose built and is based on the BRI site where there is operating theatre and ward provision. The ophthalmology department at Bradford is well equipped with some of the latest technology available including a number of Heidelberg Spectalis OCTs, facilities for OCT angiography, wide filed Optos imaging, Pentacam, retinal laser- Navilas, YAG and SLT laser, B Scan ultrasound, visual field analysers etc. while Electro diagnostic facility is available at the University of Bradford.
A hospital wide electronic patient record is complemented by ophthalmology specific EPR Medisoft. Two dedicated Ophthalmology operating theatres are equipped for all ophthalmic surgical procedures. The department has recently purchased a 3D operating system (Ingenuity). Sessions include: Theatre Sessions Outpatient clinics Visiting other units subject to approval by supervising consultant and clinical director On call inc out of hours Fellowship Objectives: To gain experience in all aspects of medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases.
To perform both clinical and basic research. To prepare the fellow for an academic career in vitreoretinal surgery. Clinical Duties: The Fellow will divide their time between the outpatient clinics, the laser suite, and the theatre. The Fellows are expected to work-up all surgical patients, and to be involved with all aspects of post-operative care.
The high volume of patients will allow extensive experience in all aspects of medical and surgical retinal disease. The amount of responsibility afforded to each particular fellow will depend on individual ability
