Applications are invited for Cornwall Clinical Fellow (F2/CT level) in Trauma and Orthopaedics
This post combines clinical work with a 20% commitment to other opportunities on a designated fellow day once per week. These posts are ideally suited if you looking for an F3 /CT3 post. We have an excellent track record in our non-trainees successfully obtaining training posts.
The clinical fellow days are: Medical education in association with University of Exeter Medical School Sports medicine, Research, Audit & Quality Improvement
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is based across three sites, with the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro being the main DGH, with two further hospitals, St Michael’s Hospital in Hayle and West Cornwall Hospital.
The trauma service is delivered at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and orthopaedic elective surgery is undertaken at St Michael’s Hospital. In addition to working on your own projects, the research posts support an array of NIHR approved RCT’s and so develop a thorough and CV enhancing understanding of research within a nationwide context.
The unit has a good reputation for supporting its non-training grade doctors and many of our previous trust doctors and clinical fellows have gone on to successfully apply for specialty training posts. There is regular departmental teaching , strong links with the research department , involved with a number of national multicentre studies with the opportunities for junior doctor involvement.

Clinical work is at the level of a F2/CT1. You will also participate in an out of hour’s rota. Routine work will include:
Assessment and management of in-patients.
Assessment and management of acute admissions.
Attend ward rounds as timetabled.
Attend multi-disciplinary ward meetings.
Attend out-patients (where appropriate) and assist with in-patient management.
Assessment of patients in the Emergency Department.
Fulfil the duties of the weekly timetable including out of hours responsibilities.
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of clinical services.
To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the patients within RCHT.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
To attend meetings as appropriate
