Description:

An exciting position has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic Clinical Fellow to join a well-established innovative specialist prion disease team at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. We are a sociable, progressive, multidisciplinary team providing expert diagnostics, advice, education, research and support to patients with all forms of prion disease.
Applicants should have completed general professional training, hold GMC registration and preferably MRCP/MRCPsych (or equivalent). Those with NTNs seeking a period out of program (OOPE) for research or sub-specialist training are encouraged to apply. Previous research experience is not essential although, for suitable candidates, there may be an opportunity to study for a higher degree (MD/PhD). Individuals with a higher degree wishing to participate in post-doctoral clinical research or sub-specialist clinical training in neurodegeneration will also be considered as will Staff grade neurologists.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills, enjoy leading and working as part of a team.
The post holder will function at a strategic level and be required to develop and innovate health care provision nationally for all patients with prion disease.
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of expert advice and support and contribute positively to the development and implementation of initiatives that promote public health.
Developing and fostering a regional and national profile in the promotion of best practice of patients with prion disease are key expectations of this role.

The Clinic is a tertiary referral centre providing a multidisciplinary approach to the clinical and research challenges presented by human prion disease. Consultant staff includes Professor John Collinge, Professor Simon Mead, and Dr Tze How Mok. The appointee would work as part of the National Prion Clinic team with particular responsibility for the clinical assessment and management of patients referred with a possible diagnosis of prion disease throughout the UK. The Clinic is closely integrated with the MRC Prion Unit which carries out world leading basic and clinical research in neurodegenerative diseases with a particular focus on development of therapeutics for prion infection.
