Description:

Department: Surgical Affairs, RCSI
Tenure: Initial 2 year contract, renewable. 0.4 WTE (2 days per week).
Location: 121, St Stephens Green, Dublin 2
Reporting to: Director of International Surgical Training Programmes

Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of this post is to ensure that RCSI delivers a “best-in-class” education and training experience for all trainees on our various International Surgical Training Programmes. The Clinical Lead will develop and oversee (in collaboration with the Training Programme Director and the Education Lead) a comprehensive education programme which ensures that trainees meet their expected competencies.
The curriculum for the international trainees is the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP). This is an “outcomes-based curriculum”, meaning that the competencies are clearly defined and there is an Assessment Framework which verifies and documents achievement of those competencies.
The model of training used in RCSI is an “experiential model” whereby most training takes place in the clinical placement and this is supported by a comprehensive simulation-based education programme in RCSI. The Clinical Lead will work closely with the Education Lead to ensure that there is a seamless interface between the clinical site training and the RCSI-based education programme, so that each trainee meets their competencies and this is fully and verifiably documented in their training portfolio.
The Clinical Lead for International Surgical Training Programmes will play a key role in enhancing our international offerings and will work with the Business Development team to develop new business opportunities with our international partners.
