Description:

INFORMATION ABOUT THE POST

The School of Social Sciences and Law Department aims to provide students with opportunities for gaining professional experience. The School’s flagship activity is the award-winning Justice Hub which incorporates the Legal Advice Centre, established in 1999, and many other pro bono projects, such as the Dementia Law Clinic, Manchester Free Legal Help scheme and Manchester Innocence Project. It is the cornerstone of all the School and Department’s clinical legal education and legal advice provision.
The University of Manchester Law School’s Justice Hub is based on the University campus. The postholder will be based working physically on campus until they fully understand the role. There may possibly be scope to work from home once a week in the future but that will be dependent on resourcing and the needs of the business. The Justice Hub encompasses various projects which provide free legal advice to members of the public. The services are delivered in person on campus, and locally in the city, as well as virtually.
Working with the Director of the Justice Hub and the Manager of the Legal Advice Centre, the post-holder will contribute to the delivery of innovative and engaging clinical legal education, clinical supervision, legal advice/casework/representation and a high quality professional experience for both the students and clients of the service. The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring effective day to day working on research, letter writing, reflective practice and presentations with the students at the School’s Justice Hub and associated clinics/centres, such as the Legal Advice Centre, Manchester Free Legal Help scheme and others. This will include providing the delivery of clinical legal education to students and a high quality professional service to Centre clients.
