About the role
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) - Primary Mental Health is a Registered Nurse who is recognised as an advanced level practitioner with expertise in effective service delivery in the speciality area of Prison Mental Health Service.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant provides expert Mental Health assessment, triage and appropriate referral to in reach agencies, nursing leadership, clinical governance, and complex clinical support for patients within a designated clinical specialty across the Prison Health Service. The role includes some education components for patients and nursing staff at all levels of practice.
The CNC will utilise their expert clinical mental health knowledge and skill in providing services that foster understanding, builds capacity, and subsequently contributes positively to the lived experience of patients in a correctional environment.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated high level of knowledge, skills, expertise and experience in contemporary mental health clinical practice related to the assessment, treatment and care of people with a mental illness.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide specialist mental health clinical advice; to communicate, consult, liaise and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders engaged in service delivery to patients with a mental illness. This includes demonstrated skills and ability in the development and maintenance of collaborative partnerships at the individual, agency and inter-sectoral levels.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to initiate, develop, implement and evaluate a range of mental health training materials, programs and other resources for staff involved in the care of patients with mental illness
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate mental health clinical practices, tools, protocols and guidelines to ensure optimum standards of care and outcomes for patients within the correctional centres, many of whom will have complex mental health care needs.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
