About the Role

The purpose of this role is to provide advanced clinical expertise and care relevant to the care of patients presenting following a sexual assault. The position involves an expert level of independent nursing that provides forensic sexual assault examinations, in the acute care setting. The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) provides direct and indirect care as required and works in collaboration with the Director of Nursing (DON) QEII, to support the clinical unit in provision of safe quality healthcare through exemplary clinical nursing standards of practice for the specialty of forensic and sexual assault nursing.

  • Responsible for clinical leadership for forensic sexual assault nursing services through the application of advanced specialist knowledge, experience, and clinical skills and competency according to contemporary practice and standards of care.
  • Coordinate mentoring, preceptorship, role modelling and promote the value of nursing within the multidisciplinary team in MSH Sexual Assault Service.
  • Provide clinical supervision, coaching, mentoring and formal education by coordinating with units and contributing to other educational programs as required.
  • Work closely with research partners to identify opportunities for research to inform practice change and quality improvements in clinical practice.
  • Participate and lead innovation and change to develop responses to address emerging service needs.
