LEARNING, EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Provide professional and personal development opportunities for all nursing and support staff working with the relevant Learning and Education specialists to develop an appropriate programme of learning and education based on a planned (individual, department and organisation) training needs assessment.
  • Oversee that the requirements of NMBI for the practice of professional nursing are met and upheld including the development of an expanded scope of nursing practice.
  • Maintain accurate records of all study leave and education resources used.
  • Develop and implement an enhanced staff competence assessment relevant to the ward.
  • Develop nursing teams and consider professional development for succession planning
  • Work with the IT Department and clinicians in the continued development of computerised systems for patient management and ensure that these are maintained and upgraded
  • Be familiar with the curriculum training programme for student nurses and be aware of the clinical experience required to meet the needs of the programme.
  • Participate in the assessment of student nurse proficiency in clinical nursing skills as part of his/her role as preceptor
  • Facilitate study days and leave for nurses, in accordance with the HMC Study Leave Policy and within budgeted allowances
  • Engage in continuing professional development by keeping up to date with nursing literature, recent nursing research and new developments in nursing management, education and practice and to attend staff study days as considered appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE

  • Registration with the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann)
  • Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregate of 5 years fulltime post registration experience) of which 2 years must be in the speciality area
  • Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.

JOB PURPOSE:

The role is responsible for the provision of quality service in line with standards of nursing practice. As a key member of the senior nursing management team, the CNM2 will demonstrate managerial and leadership skills that facilitate effective communication with colleagues and staff in the hospital. The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives. To support the nurses expanding role to become more expert, competent,
reflective practitioners developing skills to meet patient/service needs.
