HOW CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST (CNS) SUPPORT OUR TEAMS AT GRAND RIVER HOSPITAL:

At Grand River Hospital Clinical Nurse Specialists report to the Director,Surgical Program. They are active members of the Day Surgery team with responsibilities such as:

  • Coordinating patient care pathways in the Same Day Arthroplasty patient population
  • Coordinating patient pathways within the bundled care funding streams
  • Leading quality improvement initiatives and the development and implementation of standards/clinical guidelines that support “best practice”/ evidence based care
  • Ensuring planning and evaluation processes to support safe, effective and quality programs and services
  • Planning, implementing, maintaining and monitoring appropriate databases for outcome management
  • Providing expert consultation as a member of the interprofessional team and participate in the planning and coordinating of care, particularly in complex situations
  • Providing mentorship and support by acting as a resource for staff.
  • Collaborating closely with Directors and Surgical Leadership team to facilitate ongoing Same Day Arthroplasty, Acute Pain Serive and Orthopedic initiatives both within the organization and across the LHIN community
  • Participating in identifying and coordinating orthopedic research opportunities and dissemination
  • Seeking opportunities to show case our “best practice” initiatives.
