CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST (Neurology Service)

• The DBS Clinical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for the provision of specialist care to DBS patients and manage a case load of patients requiring DBS
• DBS is an elective surgical procedure in which electrodes are implanted into certain brain regions. It is an effective treatment for a subset of patients suffering with disabling movement disorders where symptoms are inadequate controlled with oral medications ,namely Parkinson’s ,essential tremor, dystonia
• DBS is delivered by a MDT of neurologists, neurosurgeons and allied professionals
• The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a practitioner with extensive clinical knowledge and expertise in the specialist field.
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the nurse specialist will use their clinical, communication and inter personal skills to assess and deliver care to the specialised cohort of patients.
• The clinical nurse specialist will apply evidence-based practice, act as a patient advocate, and provide health promotion and education to the client group.
• They will coordinate the DBS service between the acute care settings ( Mater , Beaumont and Tallaght Hospital).
