Contract: Fixed Term – 12 months
Salary: $116,000 to $127,000 (NZNO MECA)
Appointment and remuneration will reflect clinical competency, skills, and experience relevant to the role.

MOŪ – ABOUT YOU

We’re seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates who hold the title of Clinical Nurse Specialist with a current Nursing Council of NZ Annual Practising Certificate. Your professional background should include specialist nursing experience in Trauma.

You need to be able to demonstrate where you have used your advanced nursing knowledge and skills to:

  • Work in partnership with clinical stakeholders
  • Strengthen a nurse-led case-management model
  • Facilitate complex case management for patients and whanau that includes ACC claims for discharging patients
  • Navigate complex health pathways for patients who may have psychosocial circumstances
  • Develop care pathways and guidelines and implementing new standards
  • Coordinate audit and quality assurance activities
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate care based to enhance patient and their whanau/families care experience and increase self-management related to treatment and recovery

Responsibilities:

Wellington Hospital is the tertiary major trauma centre for the Central Region. We admit approximately 300 major trauma patients each year. Approximately 40% of patients are admitted to the ICU. The role involves contributing and coordinating the care of injured patients from arrival in the emergency department through the acute phase to discharge to home or rehabilitation.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – Trauma is a clinical expert providing effective specialist nursing management and coordination of care across the patient care journey for major trauma patients and their families/whanau.
The role provides expertise and speciality advice and is integral to the working with a multidisciplinary team to develop a case management model for trauma patients.
The CNS leads developing and implementing speciality specific pathways, protocols and guidelines, in accordance with relevant national and international standards and guidance. This includes evaluating standards of care, in line with research, policy and evidenced-based practice across a range of settings.
An important part of the role is identifying major trauma patients to allow data collection & entry into the New Zealand Trauma Registry. Providing support to the regional hospitals that we serve, as well as contributing towards the ongoing development of the regional trauma network are also key elements of the role.
