Join our supportive and collaborative team located onsite at Port Macquarie Base Hospital. Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, you will coordinate clinical trial services and provide pharmacy services to support patients and hospital staff on the day oncology unit.

Port Macquarie Base Hospital is a 228 bed level five facility with a 24-hour Emergency Department and a range of specialist services. The Port Macquarie Base Hospital Oncology Pharmacy is integrated with the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI). The MNCCI core services include Medical Oncology, Haematology, and Radiation Oncology.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid AHPRA registration
  • Proven ability to manage a complex clinical case load and problem solve to achieve patient focused outcomes.
  • Excellent organisational skills with proven ability to prioritise workload and forward plan to ensure standards are met.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the team, patients and carers.
  • Ability to train, coach and supervise technicians and pharmacists.
  • Proven commitment to recognised standards of practice, quality use of medicines and national health service standards.
  • Significant and expansive experience in hospital pharmacy practice including clinical oncology pharmacy practice.
  • Experience and training in clinical pharmacy relating to cancer services.
  • Active membership with at least TWO of the following professional bodies is desired: SHPA, COSA, ISOPP, HOPA, BOPA, MASCC, ASCO and/or ASHP

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating with Slade Health for supply of chemotherapy for the day oncology unity patients
  • Dispense and supply S100 (Public) medication and pharmacy products
  • Deliver advanced level clinical knowledge and expertise related to cancer care pharmacy.
  • Provide clinical leadership in efficient, safe, and high-quality clinical pharmacy service which promotes and optimises the pharmaceutical care of our patients within Cancer Services.
  • Participate in negotiations with sponsors/CROs
  • Coordinate and conduct staff training, both general and trial-specific
  • Assist sites in developing and maintaining site standard operating procedures SOPs
  • Work with sites to ensure adequate capacity to run specific trials
  • Collaborate with Icon Foundation managers regarding the feasibility of potential clinical trials and the overall strategic plan of the foundation
  • Participate in the performance review, training and development programs
  • Undertake a range of administrative, quality assurance and financial activities relating to the management and development of the pharmacy clinical trial service
  • Perform medication chart reviews and medication reconciliation
  • Participate in clinical screening of chemotherapy orders
  • Educate and counsel staff, patients and allied health professionals
  • Manufacturing and compounding of aseptic cytotoxic products and non-hazardous patient prescriptions, including the sterile cleaning process
