Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the UCLH Theatre and Anaesthesia team as a Clinical Practice Facilitator for Scrub.
As Clinical Practice Facilitator, you must have a good knowledge and experience in perioperative practice and an excellent understanding of peri-anaesthesia care.
In order to practice the role, you must be an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) OR a NMC registered Nurse (with appropriate experience in scrub).
You will be required to function effectively as a part of the theatres education team providing peri-operative learning and development support to staff and students in the department. You must be organised, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience of supervising a multi-disciplinary team providing the highest standard of patient care and learner supervision across a varied caseload.
You must be motivated and enthusiastic, as well as the ability to work well under pressure and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring a welcoming, caring and safe environment, as well as promoting, maintaining and monitoring standards in accordance with the guidelines of the NMC/HCPC and CQC.
Monitor the development, implementation and evaluation of learning and development programmes for scrub staff, and the rest of the theatres staff group.
To facilitate clinical supervision programmes as appropriate and teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to learners in scrub, as needed.
To demonstrate leadership skills and experience in the management of the department and provide high level of specialist clinical leadership.
Support the training and development programme initiated by the Division to ensure staff members achieve their full potential.
Maximise use of clinical and academic resources, implementing best practice in assessment and supervision learners in the clinical setting
Ensure E-rota and electronic patient records are implemented and used to their full potential.
To maintain a visible presence in the department, undertaking clinical work as required.

IN ADDITION YOU MUST HAVE:

Registration with the Health Professions Council as an ODP or a NMC registered Nurse
Eligibility to work in the UK
Extensive experience of providing anaesthetic care in a perioperative environment
A recognised qualification and experience of supporting learners in the perioperative environment.
Demonstrates a good working knowledge and compliance with CQC Standards

We have 27 operating rooms under UCH Theatres & Anesthesia Division which covers different specialties ranging from General surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bariatrics and upper GI surgery, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Urology, Oncology, Paediatrics, ENT, Maxillo Facial, Vascular and Plastic/ Breast surgery and Robotic Surgery. In addition, we also provide anaesthesia support in outlying areas such as endoscopy unit, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, brachytherapy and interventional radiology.
Our new operating theatre complex in Grafton Way Building is now open which caters to elective orthopaedic and ENT and oral surgeries. Further career opportunities will be available with the opening of our Proton Beam Therapy centre.
We also cater to specialist Thoracic and Urological surgical procedures at our 7 theatres in the UCLH @ Westmoreland Street site and to Neurosurgical and Neuroradiological procedures at our 7 theatres and 2 angiography suites at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
We are committed to ongoing professional development and opportunities exist to undertake a wide range of in-house and university-based training programmes.
In collaboration with University College London (UCL), we have successfully launched our anaesthesia and enhanced recovery training programmes for registered nurses/ practitioners in order to develop a multi skilled workforce.

The successful candidate will hold the appropriate qualifications to be a current registered practitioner (RGN or ODP) and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.

  • Implementing educational programmes within the department area which meet the development needs of staff, with particular focus, but not limited to, scrub.
  • Helping to maintain a suitable learning environment for staff; collaborate with nurse/ODP/support colleagues, specialists, and other disciplines to provide regular teaching and learning opportunities for all staff.
  • Helping to maintain a suitable learning environment for students within the department, liaising with Mentors, CPF team, Practice Education team and University partners to deliver excellent training.
  • Working directly alongside trained staff, students, and support staff to raise the standard of clinical practice in line with evidence-based frameworks and procedures/protocols.
  • Contributing to clinical care and practice development within the department and trust.
  • Promoting current evidence-based practice.
  • Participating in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication with colleagues, learners, patients, and their carer(s).
  • Developing and maintaining teaching and presentation skills
  • Attending relevant internal and external meetings.
  • Assisting in the effective utilisation of resources to achieve a high standard of nursing care.
  • Implementation of department induction programmes, preceptorship, and mentorship.
  • Upholding quality initiatives that improve ‘customer care’ and enhance the interface between staff, patients, and visitors as well as other wards and departments within the trust.
  • Liaising with Lead CPF, Lead Practitioners and senior managers for training needs analysis linked to PDP’s.
