Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist – Older Peoples Mental Health Inpatient Services
We are looking to recruit a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join one of our wards within Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). The inpatient wards provide care for people with mental health needs and dementia. The post will be based at Highbury Hospital. We currently have a vacancy for one 0.5 wte, however there may also be an opportunity for this to be extended to a full-time post. This post is advertised at Band 8a, however we welcome applications from applicants who are approaching qualification, newly qualified or are interested in a preceptorship arrangement.
MHSOP is an established Care Unit and psychology is highly valued within this. We are engaged in several service development programmes, including several pathways for psychological therapies. The Care Unit is also reviewing the provision of psychologically informed care, staff training to support this work and embedding new roles to facilitate the delivery of psychological interventions. Psychologists are integral to this process and you would support and participate in these developments.
There is a strong and developing network of Psychologists across the Trust. We have relationships with professional training courses and academic institutions, which provides further research, supervision and teaching opportunities. The MHSOP Care Unit also promotes the importance of professional development.
The inpatient wards provide hospital-based assessment and interventions for older people with a variety of mental health needs and people with a diagnosis of dementia. The wards also have links with the Dementia Outreach Service (DOS) and the Intensive Home Treatment Teams (IHTT).
Clinical work within the team will include providing direct psychological and neuropsychological assessment and interventions. In addition, you would support the delivery of psychologically informed care and care planning through case discussions, MDT meetings, supervision, training and consultation.

The role requires a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist who will have specialist skills for working with older people.
