Band 8A (preceptorship available at Band 7 until two years post qualification).
We are looking for a creative, forward thinking and motivated Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical/Counselling/Forensic) to join our friendly and professional multi-disciplinary team based at Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridge. Recently our commissioners have provided investment into the Psychology pathway for our inpatient services to enable the development and delivery of more psychologically informed services and increase access to psychological assessment, intervention and therapy, in line with national guidance.
You will be part of a newly expanded team of psychologists (including Principal Clinical Psychologist and other Highly Specialist Psychologists) led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. This psychology team works as part of our multidisciplinary adult mental health in-patient pathway. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dedicated growing team who make a difference to patients, carers and the teams you will work with. You will also play a key role in service development and evaluation.
You will be working alongside the Principal Clinical Psychologist on three wards (Admission, Treatment and Rehabilitation) and you will be supported by a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist. There will be specific responsibilities and duties within each setting. You will have an exciting opportunity to contribute to developing the patient pathway across the adult inpatient service. You will receive professional leadership support and line management from within a friendly and innovative multidisciplinary team.
Working Environment
To work with clients admitted to the AAU, in the community and within their own homes. At times there will be lone working in the community environments, where there is an expectation to follow the relevant safety protocols. To work with clients and carers who at times are experiencing high levels of distress and some of whom may become challenging both verbally and physically.

To provide specialist psychological assessment including neuropsychology assessment, to provide NICE compliant specialist psychological therapy, to provide advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional carers; leading on aspects of the training and on-going supervision of psychologists and non-psychologist staff in psychological interventions.
To assist with appropriate governance arrangements for all psychological services within the teams.
To contribute to the initial expert assessment of clients newly referred to the teams.
To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams’ policies and procedures.
To provide advice on methods of evaluating the work of the team including advising on suitable outcomes measures.
To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the teams.
