JOB OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a clinical research fellow within the Intestinal Failure (IF) Department.
This post is a full-time appointment for a 24-month period at Salford Care Organisation, Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust (with an option to extend for a further year as appropriate.
The main clinical focus of the post will be to strengthen links with other national and international providers to identify and evaluate patients suitable for AuGIR surgery. In parallel with the clinical program, the postholder will undertake clinical and laboratory research leading to a higher degree (MD/PhD) in the field of intestinal mucosal pathophysiology relevant to intestinal adaptation/plasticity and mucosal inflammation.
The post would be suitable for a registered medical practitioner with an interest in medical or surgical gastroenterology at a middle grade of higher professional training, seeking specialist clinical and academic experience and wishing to gain a higher degree.

Responsibilities:

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and assessing suitable patients for AuGIR from the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust and UK home parenteral nutrition databases.
  • Participating in the peri and post operative care of patients undertaking AuGIR surgery.
  • Clinical duties would include a balance of ward and outpatient work.
  • Undertaking a period of research based jointly at Salford Care Organization and the University of Manchester.
