This is a fixed term 1 year post jointly funded by UHS and the NIHR CRN. The post will provide unrivalled exposure to clinical neurosurgery and at the same time training in the management and conduct of clinical research. The post is part of the established neurosurgery research programme at the Wessex Neurological Centre. The team currently is one of the highest recruiting teams nationally in neurological disorders and is focussed on haemorrhagic stroke and traumatic brain injury.
This is an opportunity for extensive exposure to all aspects of clinical research ranging from trial design, set up and recruitment, to data collection and analysis. They will be part of a team of 5 research fellows working different aspects of neurovascular disorders and they will gain further support from the wider body of research fellows in the Trust. As part of this they will participate in the Wessex Clinical Research Network Clinical Research Fellows training programme and statistics courses and receive certification of this.
You will be encouraged and given time to develop their own research project and pilot data. This will provide an excellent opportunity for those wanting to pursue a higher degree in a department with a track record of previous fellows successful in obtaining funding from prestigious national bodies like the
NIHR to continue their work.
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The successful candidate will split their time between research and clinical care.
Your clinical commitments will be to the care of neurosurgical patients on the wards, in theatre and in outpatients.
As part of your research commitment, you will be expected to work with a large research nursing team to support recruitment to the large number of academic as well as commercial studies on the NIHR portfolio currently being run in the unit.
