Description:

We are looking for a highly motivated Clinical Scientist (Band 7 AfC equivalent) to join the Biochemical Sciences department at St Thomas’ Hospital. The candidate will have experience in either Biochemistry or Genetics.
The Biochemical Sciences department is comprised of four specialist laboratories: Reference Chemistry, Purine Research Laboratory, Inherited Metabolic Disease and Newborn Screening for the South East Thames region.
The successful candidate will be primarily based in the Purine Research Laboratory to support the continued provision of service in the following areas: therapeutic drug monitoring of thiopurine and fluoropyrimidine based drugs and biologics (chromatographic based techniques, mass spectrometry, ELISA, i-Track), pharmacogenetic assays (RT-PCR), genetic screening for purine and pyrimidine disorders (PCR-Sanger Sequencing), and will contribute to the development of new tests.
Candidates will be dedicated and enthusiastic and will have experience of working in Laboratory Medicine including an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry or Genetics, experience of analytical and clinical validation of results and manual sample preparation techniques.
