Skills and Experience (include but not limited to)

  • Clinical inpatient and outpatient experience in Medical Oncology.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with sound time-management skills and good attention to detail.
  • A primary medical degree registerable with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Eligibility for Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition within the next 12 months.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

An opportunity exists for a Medical Oncology Trial Fellow to join both Calvary Mater Newcastle and Breast Cancer Trials with the primary aim of championing breast cancer clinical research in the Hunter Region. The successful candidate will be employed by Calvary Mater Newcastle for 0.6 FTE, and separately by Breast Cancer Trials for 0.4 FTE for a 12-month term.
As the Medical Oncology Clinical Trial Fellow at the Calvary Mater Newcastle, you will be joining one of the busiest clinical trial units in New South Wales. The unit currently has more than 60 actively recruiting clinical trials spanning Phase I to III trials in numerous tumour streams, including Breast, GI, GU, H&N, lung, CNS, Gynae, skin and melanoma. The role will primarily support the Breast and Gynaecological trial activities of the Medical Oncology Department through close interaction with treating staff specialists, clinical trial coordinators, sponsor representatives, and nursing. The unit prides itself on the provision of exemplary clinical research by a collaborative team, and has been involved in practice changing studies.
You will be based part-time at the Breast Cancer Trials (BCT) operations office in the CBD of Newcastle. BCT currently has 6 open trials and many more in follow-up. You will contribute to, and gain valuable insights into, the conduct of multi-centre clinical trials research. You will support the BCT Clinical Trials Department in its goal to contribute to the eradication of suffering from breast cancer by ensuring high quality research for the prevention and treatment of all stages of breast cancer in accordance with the objectives of BCT.
