Description:
These posts are designed to offer experience and training to doctors who wish to obtain the MRCP qualification and pursue further training in acute or specialty medicine in the UK. Working as a Clinical Trust Fellow (ST1-2 grade) in this Trust will combine exposure to acute unselected general medicine, medical specialty training and a structured teaching programme similar to the Deanery Programme. Fellows will be allocated a consultant educational and clinical supervisor and must maintain appropriate electronic portfolio by JRCPTB. Fellows will be welcomed to join the weekly teaching sessions in their own departments, Medical Grand rounds every Wednesday and CMO Grand Round every Friday.
They may be able to attend in-house training for PACES, and study leave will be available to help candidates attend courses to prepare for the examinations. Fellows must attain relevant competences appropriate for their level of experience for progression. All posts will rotate between the specialties in periods of 4-6 months, and many will include a component of unselected acute General Internal Medicine (GIM) on call including evening and weekend ward cover. They will be rotated between some of the following specialties - Acute medicine, Geriatric medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory medicine, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Oncology, Rheumatology and Intensive care.
The typical candidate should have passed or be preparing for Part I of the MRCP. The successful candidates should be planning to undertake Part II MRCP during the period of the rotation. It is anticipated that by the time of completion of the post the candidate would have worked with clinical and educational supervisors and would have evidence of acquiring the competencies, which will be recorded on the JRCPTB e-portfolio. It is also anticipated that the candidate will have sufficient knowledge, skills and behaviour to secure further specialist training post in the UK The post-holder will work in a large and diverse multidisciplinary team providing best inpatient care for medical patients.
The post holder must promote safe and effective handover of patient care in line with Trust Governance. The post holder will be required to actively participate in clinical audit and implement its results and relate these to the Trust and Directorate policies on Clinical Governance. The post-holder will work toward achieving their requirements and competencies for entry into Core / Specialist / GP training
