The Bureau’s Data and Digital group (DDG) is responsible for the ICT systems the Bureau relies on to provide trusted, reliable and responsive weather, water, climate, ocean and space weather services for Australia – all day, every day. In recent years the information technology platforms of the Bureau have continued to evolve at a rapid rate to better suit changing organisational demands. The success and consumption of, and demand for, public cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure has grown and continues to increase. The Bureau is setting up a dedicated capability within the Infrastructure Services section to govern and manage these new and emerging cloud platforms at a high level.
An experienced and suitably qualified cloud technology engineering lead is sought with a track record of designing, configuring and building systems on public cloud platforms. The lead will work closely with the Cloud Services Lead and the Infrastructure Services Manager to help realise this capability within a new Cloud Enablement team to provide this critical capability for the Bureau ongoing.
To be successful in the role you will :-
- Bring with you and contribute relevant experience and expertise in designing systems for Cloud Platforms in detail (including producing detailed design documentation where appropriate) and implementing designs;
- Have a good understanding of cloud finance principles (‘FinOps’), and how to keep cloud consumption sustainable;
- Have an awareness of the trade-offs involved with using a cloud platform relative to a traditional on-premises platform, and how those trade-offs can be balanced to the organisation’s advantage;
- Be aware of government cyber security frameworks and how they apply to Cloud platforms;
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Value teamwork and diversity, show interest in and support your peers, and value professional collaboration;
- Have a knowledge of and demonstrate commitment to the APS Values, APS Code of Conduct, and the Bureau’s Social Justice Strategy.
