Description:

DESCRIPTION

The vineyard was established in 1979 with small plantings of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Further plantings have expanded to include Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. Our Pinot Noir consists of seven different clones originating from Switzerland, California, France and Australia.
Reporting to the Proprietors, this full-time position will lead the operational delivery of the Vineyard teams workplan, as well as the general farm maintenance and presentation.
Clyde Park has always had a strong commitment to sustainability and land stewardship. As an experienced vineyard leader, you will oversee all of the vineyard operations with a focus to identify opportunities to increase not just yields but quality and productivity whilst ensuring the team are successfully using industry best practices. Furthermore, you will prioritize the safety and sustainability of all aspects of the Vineyard operations.
This role is responsible for the maintenance of all vineyard infrastructure, including the trellis and irrigation system, vineyard machinery and tools to a high standard. You will develop and maintain a high level of accurate record keeping for crop estimation, planning, stock take and regulatory purposes.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Viticulture, Agriculture or Horticulture is an advantage but not essential.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in viticulture on a day to day operational basis is required
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a strong vineyard team both operationally and through sound administration and record keeping
  • Familiarity with operating and maintaining a range of vineyard machinery and equipment
  • Winemaking knowledge is an advantage but not essential
  • Unrestricted Drivers licence is required
  • Forklift licence & Chemical Users Certificate is desirable

Experience

  • Understanding and awareness of monitoring workplace Health & Safety regulations to develop a culture of safety in the team
  • Financial aptitude, record keeping and managing work schedules
  • Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management processes and caring for and managing livestock
  • Ability to and a willingness to undertake manual labour tasks along with the team as required, especially at peak times

The successful applicant will;

  • Manage all vineyard operations with a view to increasing its quality and productivity outcomes, including using industry best practices and standards.
  • Lead by example a small viticulture team with a positive management style & a can do attitude. Train and develop the team to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Develop and manage the day to day duties, tasks and expenses of the Vineyard team to ensure their work plan is delivered efficiently, effectively and timely.
  • Maintain all vineyard infrastructure, including the trellis and irrigation system, vineyard machinery and tools to a high standard, whilst always taking pride in the overall appearance of the property.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of accurate record keeping to monitor costs, for crop estimation, stock takes and regulatory practices.
  • Create and ensure adherence to safe work program that complies with Work Safe Victoria regulations and upskill the team to undertake all tasks safely.
  • Advance the environmentally sustainable approach to all practices and reduce emissions through implementing best practice farming techniques.
  • Benchmark all vineyard operations to ensure all tasks are carried out in a timely and environmentally sustainable and cost effective manner.
