Responsibilities:
We are recruiting for two full-time ongoing co-director roles (Scientific Officer Grade 4), which will be based on Lizard Island. These are set for a four year term with an extension to ongoing employment.
The co-directors make an important contribution to the management and conservation of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef by facilitating scientific research and education.
The co-directors are responsible for developing and administering all operations at LIRS, which include:
- assisting visitors with pre-arrival trip planning and logistics
- ensuring work is conducted safely, in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable manner, and within legislated requirements
- development and maintenance of extensive facilities
- budgeting, financial forecasting and handling accounts receivable and payable
- managing and guiding development of the Lizard Island Fellowships and Grants program.
The Co-Directors also work closely with the Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation to raise funds for the Station.
The roles are expected to commence in October 2024, with 2 months handover period.
