Overview:
Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Electrical student for a paid summer Co-Op for Summer 2024 at our Ottawa, Ontario office. Imagine working on rewarding client projects and being exposed to unparalleled training and development opportunities! The summer Co-Op has a commitment of approximately May to September 2024.
We will be accepting resumes for this opportunity from approximately April 2024 – May 2024. Resumes will be reviewed, and interviews will take place in April/May 2024 and offers will be extended in May 2024. Timeframe subject to change.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Merrick Co-Op Program will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of electrical design. Our intern will be exposed to a variety of electrical engineering experiences and tasks including, but not limited to, facility electrical power, lighting, grounding, fire detection, lighting system, communication systems and security and access control
The position requires the collaboration with other disciplines, ability to interface with clients and contractors, follow schedules and budget commitments, work independently, possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality. Students who have recently graduated will not be considered. Please look for Entry Level Electrical Engineer positions.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit preferred
  • Knowledge of power distribution design software (SKM, PowerTools, Easy Power) preferred
  • Knowledge of facility electrical and lighting design and/or power system design
  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate or technologist degree
  • Must be pursuing a degree as an Electrical Engineer or Electrical Technologist with an electrical emphasis
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
  • Local Candidates Preferred.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the Canada without Sponsorship.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
