ABOUT BLACKWATER MINE:

Situated 73 kilometres south-east of Emerald, Blackwater is the second-largest open-cut metallurgical coal mine in the Bowen Basin. This long-life operation began in 1967 and has grown to become one of the longest coal mines in the Southern Hemisphere, with a strike length of 80 kilometres. Blackwater extracts high quality metallurgical and thermal coal for the export market using truck and shovel, as well as loader and dragline.
About the Role
With our recent acquisition of Blackwater Mine, Whitehaven Coal are seeking a skilled Coal Planning Engineer to provide planning support and production advice across the operation. As a Coal Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering coal production plans for coal mining, coal processing and coarse reject deposition.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop the 24hr production plan with a focus on blend compliance and coal quality.
  • Create designs and schedules that are safe, efficient and aligned to the annual budget and 5Yr plan.
  • Solve problems arising from equipment maintenance, blend issues or any others.
  • Foster collaborative and productive relationships across the organisation including external providers and technical consultants.

What You’ll Bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or other suitable qualification.
  • An extensive coal quality and planning background is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to articulate technical information.
  • Highly proficient in industry software applications such as Corvus and Spry.
