Colorectal Nurse Practitioner

They will gain skills in preparing and leading the daily ward rounds alongside the Registrar/Consultant, facilitating prompt discharge of the Colorectal patients, ensuring patient flow and following up patients on discharge. They will continue to run Nurse led ward attender clinics and pre op assessment clinics, liaising/organising with clerical staff patient lists. The Peri-operative care of colorectal patients (wound assessment, identification of surgical problems and complications) and the skills in Identifying the acute deterioration of patients with knowledge of early warning scores is essential. Acting as a support and teaching resource for other staff members is a fundamental part of the role.
The ability to trouble shoot and escalate concerns to Senior Colleagues is essential and acting as a Role model for Junior staff. Maintaining the safety for those in their care and advocating for the needs of the patients is paramount
