We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Colour Specialist to join our Powder Coatings team at Sunshine, Melbourne. This role is crucial in supporting our Australian and New Zealand operations by providing technical direction in product development, cost management, and customer service. Reporting to the Colour Team Leader and Lab Manager, you will ensure timely and accurate colour developments, helping AkzoNobel secure and retain customers and contracts.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and Refine Colour Matches: Use Powder Formulation Guidelines to create and fine-tune colour matches that meet customer specifications and technical needs. Work within budget constraints to ensure cost-effectiveness. Collaborate closely with sales and technical teams to understand customer requirements and market trends, delivering consistent, high-quality results.
  • Maintain the Powder Formulation Database: Keep the Powder Formulation Database (PV) updated and accurate to compile and analyze data that enhances the colour matching team’s performance. Ensure formulas are correctly loaded into SAP for production, facilitating smooth operations. Regularly audit and validate data to maintain its integrity.
  • Calibrate Test Equipment: Regularly calibrate allocated test equipment according to scheduled timeframes to comply with quality regulations, accreditations, and internal policies. Accurate calibration ensures the precision and reliability of testing processes, contributing to high product quality and safety standards.
  • Support the Sales Team: Provide expert advice on colour adjustments and capabilities to the sales team, enabling them to effectively communicate technical information to customers. Translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms, offering quick, reliable solutions to customer queries and challenges.
  • Promote Health and Safety Programs: Support and uphold safety and 5S programs in the powder laboratory, aligning with Akzo Nobel’s EH&S programs. Conduct regular safety audits, train staff on safety protocols, and ensure all safety and 5S KPIs are met. Foster a strong safety culture and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Manage Project Activities: Plan and oversee project activities under the guidance of the Lab Manager to meet project objectives within agreed timelines. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, set clear milestones, track progress, and address any issues promptly to ensure timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
  • Prepare and Test Samples: Prepare and test samples using established formulation guidelines or directions from the Lab Manager. Ensure precise measurement, thorough testing, and accurate documentation to meet product design objectives. Attention to detail and adherence to protocols are crucial for maintaining product integrity.
  • Conduct Laboratory Service Requests (LWR): Execute Laboratory Service Requests, including conducting necessary tests and preparing detailed written reports as directed by the Lab Manager. Approach testing methodically, record data accurately, and produce comprehensive reports to support decision-making and customer satisfaction.
