POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST

The Department of Anesthesiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the research lab led by Guang Yang, PhD. The lab focuses on investigating the synaptic and neural circuit mechanisms of postoperative pain and neurocognitive dysfunction, with the goal to understand how sleep and the immune system regulate sensory and cognitive processing.
The ideal candidate, with a strong background in neuroscience or immunology, should demonstrate proficiency in essential laboratory techniques, including rodent stereotaxic surgery, behavioral testing, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and flow cytometry. Additionally, applicants are expected to have solid experience in two-photon laser scanning microscopy or electrophysiology. Coding skills using Matlab, Python, or R are highly desirable for this role.
In addition to research responsibilities, the selected candidate will assist with instructing and training of students, fellows, technicians, and laboratory assistants as required. Additional duties may be assigned based on the needs of the lab.
Qualified applicants must be recent recipients of a doctorate (PhD, MD, or both) awarded within the past three years, no exception. The University offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. This position falls under a collective bargaining agreement.
Hiring Salary Range: $70,000–$75,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Columbia University is an equal opportunity employer/disability/veteran.
