Description:

Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. provides services to industries and governments around the world to assess the consequences and risks associated with potentially catastrophic events including explosions, fires, and toxic material releases.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree (MS) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline along with 5 or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or comparable certification strongly preferred.

Candidate must have broad knowledge of engineering practices, process safety principles, and industry standards that apply to combustible dust handling operations, including the following:

  • NFPA codes/standards (i.e., 61, 68, 69, 484, 499, 652, 654, 655 and 664)
  • Electrical safety and NEC compliance for classified/hazardous locations
  • Dust collection system analysis and design
  • Bulk solids processing equipment (e.g., pneumatic conveyance systems)Instrumentation and controls
  • Housekeeping methods (i.e., for combustible dust control)
  • Emergency planning
  • Candidate must be able to lead dust hazard analysis teams and apply process safety principles to develop prioritized written recommendations.
  • Must be able to identify and develop new clients.
  • Must have the ability to support multiple projects while meeting deadlines and working with a variety of personnel under a range of conditions (i.e., office, industrial, accident and test range sites).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site inspections to perform combustible dust hazard analyses (DHA) and evaluate compliance with related industry standards
  • Develop dust testing recommendations and analyze test results
  • Develop performance-based protection system design recommendations
  • Investigate combustible dust fire and explosion incidents
  • Support industrial facility explosion consequence and risk assessments
  • Provide training and mentoring to internal staff and new hires
  • Develop and execute business development plans for areas related to combustible dusts, including the development of new clients
  • Prepare and administer combustible dust hazard training courses
  • Contribute to authoring publications in relevant areas and participating in regional and national industry organizations
  • Position will involve significant travel.
