Oxford Nanopore’s sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis, in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths. We are looking for a Bioinformatician to join the Commercial Applications EMEA team!

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR.

  • MSc or PhD in a Biological Science or Computer Science with a substantial bioinformatics component, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of handling and analysing large next-generation sequencing datasets and working closely with experimental scientists to continually refine experimental and analytical approaches.
  • Experience with using and adapting bioinformatics tools and building bioinformatic pipelines.
  • Understanding of the range and limitations of existing bioinformatics tools. In addition, you have experience with scripting languages, e.g. python or R.

Additional skills, experience and knowledge in the following areas are also desirable:

  • Experience with NGS data analysis using long reads. Experience with analysis of bulk or single cell RNA sequencing is a plus
  • Experience with workflow management systems (e.g. nextflow), good software development practices (e.g. version control), advanced data visualisation, and statistical data analysis
  • Hands-on wet lab experience, or a track record of close interaction with wet lab scientists, on sample and library preparation for NGS
  • Good scientific literacy skills, including experience with reading and writing research reports or publications, and up-to-date knowledge of NGS literature
  • Postdoctoral research experience or similar research experience in biotechnology industry

Responsibilities:

  • Analyse data and interpret results for a wide range of different applications of Nanopore sequencing
  • Working with laboratory-based scientists to help them plan and refine experiments, interpreting the data they have generated in appropriate biological context, and reporting the results. Interacting with other bioinformaticians in the company to utilise and adapt their tools for analysis.Collaborating as part of a multi-disciplinary team on the experimental cycle from sample collection through to high-quality publication
