Description:

SUMMARY

This role will play a key role in supporting participation in the power markets to enable the delivery of Lightsource bp’s development activity for solar pv, wind and BESS in Europe. Collaborating with the wider Power Marketing Team and Development to support the commercial goals and objectives including analysis of revenue opportunities for renewables and BESS, auction participation, route to market contracting, and understanding regulatory and practical aspects of dispatching power in the market.
Based in Berlin with primary focus on the German and Polish markets as well as supporting the wider Europe region as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 yrs. of industry experience, with strong internal stakeholder and external market engagement.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental drivers in the European power markets
  • Understanding of BESS revenue stacks and how to optimize BESS concept design to reflect the opportunities in a market.
  • European energy policy and regulation in relation to renewables and BESS
  • Familiar with power purchase agreements and other energy sales structures.
  • Familiar with RES auctions, environmental attributes, embedded benefits, and other relevant sources of value for a solar project.
  • Experience with bidding into capacity markets in Poland or other EMEA regions.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in negotiating PPAs with utility off-takers or BESS optimization agreements
  • Understanding of metering and connection protocols for renewables and BESS with focus on how this interfaces with the route to market and dispatch activity.
  • Solid track record in structuring, negotiation and execution of deals with commercial approach.
  • Strong project and process management skills with experience collaborating with multiple teams on simultaneous projects.
  • Good interpersonal, leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English and preferably other German and/or Polish
  • Highly self-motivated and organized individual with ability to work to transaction deadlines.
  • Willing and able to travel in Europe as required

Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Track future developments with respect to wholesale market regulation, ancillary services, design and metering, etc.
  • Run procurement processes to secure physical route-to-market contracts for the off-take for solar projects and sell environmental attributes minimising basis risk to any virtual PPAs or CFDs. Run procurement process to secure route-to-market for BESS projects with optimizers, aggregators, and utilities.
  • Analyze and assess the pricing and contract terms of potential deal structures.
  • Interact with utilities to keep track of developments in the power markets and evolving innovative solutions for power marketing to support development of the Lightsource bp pipeline.
  • Understand metering, data flows and other key aspects of dispatching and scheduling power and develop processes to support our activities in the market with the relevant teams.
  • Support the process for the accreditation process for securing environmental attributes for projects.
  • Support structuring and negotiation of corporate and utility PPAs and other power sales activity.
  • Support bidding BESS into capacity market opportunities.
  • Follow and understand the RES auctions and support the development of bidding strategy and engagement in contracts.
  • Monitor and deliver all obligations, conditions precedent and commercial operations requirements from execution to operation to ensure successful commencement of offtake arrangements, including any ancillary agreements and activities required to achieve this.
  • Manage handover of PPA documentation to support transition of responsibility to Asset Management
