Description:

Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Responsibilities:

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is responsible for promoting UK trade and investment with the rest of the world. UK-Chile trade is growing year on year, with the UK’s accession to CPTPP building on an already strong bilateral agreement to enable even more opportunity to boost exports and deepen our trading relationship.
Working within the British Embassy in Chile, as well as collaborating closely with DBT Latin America and Caribbean (LATAC) and UK colleagues, the successful applicant will work to support UK exports into Chile across one or more sectors, deepening trade relations and contributing to economic growth and jobs.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

DBT Chile supports UK companies looking to grow their exports to Chile across a number of sectors including: infrastructure; renewable energy; defence and security; agriculture; healthcare and life sciences; food and drink; and financial and professional services.
The sector focus of this role will depend on business need and where the strongest commercial opportunities for UK companies can be found.

As a cross-cutting business development manager and commercial officer, the successful candidate will (subject to reasonable change) be responsible for:

  • Providing bespoke support and account management to UK companies in Chile through creation and execution of well-planned interventions (meetings, introductions, events, marketing, partnerships, government engagement) resulting in UK businesses securing new business in Chile.
  • Supporting UK businesses to access opportunities in Chile. Building and managing a diverse pipeline of exports projects and commercial opportunities, working with DBT sector colleagues across the region and in the UK, moving quickly from identification of opportunities to achieving commercial wins. Track, monitor and evaluate opportunities and exporters as they progress through the pipeline.
  • Developing a robust understanding of market access barriers affecting UK companies wishing to do business in Chile, prioritising them and developing plans of action to address those issues in order to support UK exports, including by working closely with trade policy colleagues in DBT Chile and the region.
  • Building and managing a diverse public and private sector stakeholder network focused on potential Chilean buyers of UK exports and UK companies, including account managing key stakeholders, applying account management principles and excellent customer service to increase the probability of successful exports.
  • Ensuring up to date understanding of the market conditions within their sectors of responsibility and horizon scanning for emerging trends where appropriate, to identify key areas of opportunity for UK business. Working flexibly to respond to new areas of opportunity that are identified as a result, including supporting across the wider team where needed.
  • Supporting the wider work of DBT Chile, other Embassy sections, and DBT LATAC (in particular the Andean subregion) when required, including regional engagement and collaboration, internal coordination and planning, events, analysis and briefing.
