Description:

Primary responsibilities include providing prompt, cost effective and efficient examination, investigation and settlement of 1 st party commercial property insurance claims for large level exposure for Excess Surplus lines and Admitted Policies with minimal supervision, by exercising independent decision making skills, judgment, and providing informed coverage analysis.

EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR Relevant combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company’s learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification and designations such as CPCU, CIC, AIC, SCLA etc. is highly preferred and encouraged.

EXPERIENCE:

Seven years of progressively more responsible experience in a Commercial Property claims environment that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities, such as experience in reviewing, investigating and resolving the most complex commercial property claims. Experience handling claims in multiple states preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Seven years of progressively more responsible experience in a claims environment that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities. Experience handling claims in multiple jurisdictions preferred. Bilingual skills preferred. A concentration in commercial trucking would be preferred; or Two years of AF Group Claims Representative III experience that includes independent handling of the most complex claims and/or the most complex, high touch or labor-intensive customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibilities include the ability to utilize independent decision-making skills to evaluate commercial property claim coverage and determine the scope of damages, direct external investigation while providing timely customer service and resolution of complex and large exposure first party property claims.
  • Conduct prompt, thorough, and fair investigations by obtaining relevant facts and expert input (as appropriate) to determine cause and extent of damages.
  • Assign, direct, and handle property losses through the use Independent Adjusters and other experts and vendors as appropriate.
  • Possess the ability to interpret and understand commercial property coverage forms including knowledge of exclusions, limitations and amendatory endorsements.
  • Determine scope of damages through the use of Xactimmate and/or vendor and IA estimates.
  • Utilize experts such as structural engineers, building consultants, cause and origin investigators and other specialized vendors as deemed appropriate to move the claim toward resolution.
  • Exercise independent decision-making skills with minimal to moderate supervision and direction on claims assigned, using knowledge of local codes, regulatory laws, standards and case-law.
  • Verify coverage, conduct a complete investigation and document the claim file according to the property file handling guidelines and Department of Insurance requirements by gathering all pertinent information necessary to determine the resolution of the claim.
  • Set timely reserves, provide pertinent details to manager when loss exceeds adjuster authority and timely request reserves and payment authority.
  • Maintain communication with all interested parties in the claim including the insured, retail and general agents, public adjusters and attorneys.
  • Ability to negotiate settlements with the insured, attorneys or 1st party representatives.
  • Retain and manage outside vendors to ensure focused information is provided in the investigation and cost containment is maintained.
  • Establish and maintain through effective communication, positive working relationships with all internal and external customers.
  • Proficient in writing position letters (Reservation of Rights and Declination, detailed settlement letter)
