Description:

JOIN US AND HELP TO BUILD A CLEANER, GREENER ENERGY SYSTEM.

The interconnectors within the NGV portfolio make money primarily by auctioning capacity between interconnected markets. The clearing price achieved is a function of the difference (or arbitrage) between prices in those markets. We are gaining more flexibility around the dates, products and volumes we auction and want to set auction strategies to maximise revenues while providing a stable return. We also need to be able to estimate our revenues for business planning purposes, regularly review performance and adapt our strategies within year. As we increase our use of forecasting tools and adapt our hedging strategy based on market volatility we are exposed to inherent commercial risk.
As a Commercial Risk Analyst, you’ll be responsible for developing and owning key BAU calculations, and producing analytics on the Interconnectors to aid decision making and measure performance. In addition, you’ll support with monitoring our commercial risk exposure and ensure ongoing compliance with commercial risk management frameworks and corresponding processes and controls.
This role is based from Warwick and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Working with other team members to gather requirements, develop and own reports/dashboards including financial results, commercial opportunities, risk and performance metrics.
  • Execution and ongoing monitoring and maintenance of key BAU calculations utilised by the Optimisation and wider CCR team (e.g. Risk metrics and auction revenue model).
  • Performing ad hoc analytic requests.
  • Supporting development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of commercial risk management frameworks and corresponding processes and controls.

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience of handling significant quantities of data, knowledge of data handling techniques, experience of using databases and data mining.
  • Experience of developing, implementing, running and maintaining complex calculations to meet business requirements.
  • Highly analytical and quantitative – demonstrated ability to critically review and perform complex analytics.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Power BI and Microsoft Excel (note: evidence of this may be sought at interview).
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to influence others, work collaboratively and constructively with project partners, external stakeholders and internal teams to achieve consensus and positive outcomes.
  • Knowledge of GB and EU electricity industry structures, policies and regulations, market fundamentals and recent trends is desirable.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid Interconnectors, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
