Description:

It’s an exciting time to join the Ontario Parks Operations Branch as they establish a telecommunications and dispatch unit where you will assist in the deployment and support of ministry personnel and clients in non-emergency and emergency situations within the province in a 24/7 multi-service environment.

KEY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

You have:

  • demonstrated understanding of evacuation, contingency, and emergency management principles
  • understanding of effective workflow management methods and data collection techniques and best practices in an extremely busy environment
  • the ability to acquire complete knowledge of the communications unit and relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and applicable legislation

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • You have enhanced keyboarding skills to provide accurate live data entry
  • You are proficient as an advanced computer operator and comfortable with various software applications including spreadsheets, email, databases and word-processing often using many applications at one time
  • You have knowledge of map reading and geo spatial software, telephone etiquette and radio protocols
  • You have the skills to learn, adapt and apply new and unique software applications and hardware

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment including weekend and statutory holidays.

You will:

  • serve as first point of contact, receive and prioritize phone calls and elicit required information
  • provide safety monitoring and emergency response for all field staff and registered clients
  • obtain relevant background information on occurrences and provide details to field officers including updates
  • answer queries for information from officers in the field
  • enter, update, retrieve data, and perform systems queries pertaining to incidents and occurrences on various specialized computer systems and various internet intelligence research tools
  • logs calls for service, information requests, creates occurrence reports
  • brief appropriate staff and management of serious incidents e.g., officer safety alerts, road closures, severe weather etc.
