Harnessing the depth and breadth of expertise across the War Studies and Defence Studies Departments, and the King’s Institute for Applied Security Studies, we are one of the largest multi-disciplinary communities of scholars in the world engaged in the teaching and research of all aspects of conflict, war, security and defence.
About the role
We’re seeking an enthusiastic Communications and Events Officer to join our team for a fixed-term contract until 8 August 2025.
As the Communications and Events Officer, you’ll collaborate closely with the School Communications Manager to curate and manage our diverse events portfolio, while also overseeing both internal and external communications initiatives. Your role will be instrumental in amplifying the School’s research profile among our staff, students, alumni, stakeholders and wider public audiences.

Collaboration lies at the core of this role, as you’ll work closely with colleagues across departments to craft engaging content for our social media channels, website and podcast.
You’ll need a keen eye for copy-editing and proofreading to ensure our messaging is clear, concise and compelling. Additionally, your ability to uncover newsworthy angles and craft captivating stories will be pivotal in showcasing our research excellence and expertise to a broader audience.
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing for both remote work and on-site presence at our office located at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, Oxfordshire. While regular attendance at the Defence Academy is necessary, we will also consider applicants who prefer to work from our Strand Campus in London
