Description:

AltaML is a leading North American applied AI company with extensive experience in building and operationalizing AI solutions. We call our business model Invent and Scale, from industry agnostic to industry focused, which encompasses focus and domain expertise combined with an ability to understand workflows and how to get to generalizability with data. AltaML has multiple functional disciplines and joint ventures.
We are a company like no other - we believe in making small bets, failing fast, and being better together. We are looking for creative problem-solvers who obsess about the customer to find wins across different industries.
We don’t hire for fit; we hire to add. We are looking for people who play our core values of being: Agile, Gritty Humble, and Happy. If you’re passionate about AI/ML, thrive in a dynamic environment, and want to work with a diverse team of wickedly smart people, we want to hear from you!
This is an 8-month preferred opportunity for current students looking for work experience starting in Fall 2024. Please note that this opportunity can also be extended.
As the Communications Associate and as a member of the Marketing and Communications team you will play an essential role in supporting growth through storytelling to highlight how artificial intelligence can help propel business, as well as build brand reputation and visibility for AltaML and its Ventures. Using plain language and clear messaging, this team ensures accessibility of complex AI/ML subject-matter to wide audiences, while resonating with target audience needs.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain a wealth of communications experience for a rapidly-growing company. You will work closely with the Communications Manager on a number of communication functions and work collaboratively on amplifying the AltaML brand (and Ventures as required) through earned media and owned channels. There are also opportunities to work collaboratively with teams across the organization as part of the business operations team.
Office as a Resource & Participating Universities: This opportunity is currently open to anyone that is currently enrolled at the U of Alberta, U of Calgary (Masters Only), U Waterloo, U of Toronto, and Queens U. As this is a Mitacs funded opportunity, please reach out if you have questions regarding your eligibility. While we have offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Waterloo we use our offices as a resource.

Responsibilities:

Provide recommendations for enhanced clarity of messaging.
Work collaboratively with the Communications Manager on strategic communications such as drafting key messages, announcements, press releases, and overall communication plans.
Ensure consistency and adherence to brand voice and maintain brand integrity on all external communications and collateral.
Take technical concepts around software development and artificial intelligence and translate them into plain language in a way that helps highlight the way these technologies can help propel business.
Contribute to drafting strategic social media posts and brainstorm ideas on developing strategic and engaging social media content for company announcements and other partnership/sponsorship agreements.
Support coordination relating to design requests for social media posts, announcements, and other collateral as required.
Brainstorm ideas and proactively pursue media opportunities and other tactics to amplify brand and visibility in all markets.
Support internal communications.
Other duties as required to support the portfolio.
