Our families came to Michigan from all over Mexico and Latin America. They sacrificed everything so we could live the American dream, generations of seeking a better future. We know what we deserve: access to health care, education, and protection of our right to vote. Let’s celebrate our collective resilience by advocating for the future we see possible, the one we want to build for ourselves.

WHO WE ARE

MI Poder is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, non-partisan social welfare and civic engagement organization serving the Latinx population in Michigan. Our purpose is to strengthen the Michigan Latinx voice and leadership capacity to mobilize our constituents and increase participation in the democratic process. We develop and advocate for legislation, regulations, and government programs to improve the Michigan Latinx community’s opportunities, growth, and investment.

WHAT WE NEED

MI Poder is currently seeking a Communications Director to lead the design, development and implementation of our strategic communication efforts. A perfect fit for a strategic and innovative thinker, the Communications Director is responsible for defining the voice and establishing the public image of MI Poder. A major player during election seasons, this position plays a critical role in informing Latinx voters, influencing decision-makers and impacting policy change through effective communication strategies. We are looking to fill this position ASAP and will be accepting applications on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities of the Communications Director include:

  • Create a communications plan and goals aligned with MI Poder’s mission, align staff and stakeholders around the plan, manage execution of the plan, and ensure established communications goals are met.
  • Sit on the MI Poder Leadership Team and serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director giving input on strategic decisions and collaboration as needed.
  • Create culturally relevant, shareable online content effectively spreading the message of MI Poder’s work. Develop and employ methods to track and monitor effectiveness and reach of implemented content.
  • Serve as the voice and spokesperson for MI Poder to the public. Create press releases and media advisories. Pitch press stories to keep MI Poder relevant and in the public eye. Build and maintain relationships with members of the press.
  • Partner with Field leaders in creating an online presence to mobilize voters by developing language and messaging in support of the Field Team strategy. Develop corresponding language and messaging for boots-on-the-ground Field Team members.
