REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years in a communications role.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (communications, business) or equivalent work experience.
  • A solid understanding of plain language writing principles.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills (the kind you need to negotiate with and influence colleagues).
  • A self-starter with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace suite and familiarity with communication and collaboration tools (e.g., email marketing platforms, intranet software).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, with a proactive and adaptable approach to work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with multimedia editing and production (video/audio) is an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector is an asset.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a full-time Communications Specialist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for writing and editing email newsletters, PR messaging and assets, corporate communications, reports, playing a crucial role in enhancing our brand image, and driving engagement with our target audience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write and edit compelling content for email newsletters, thought leadership articles, internal communications, key messaging documents, reports, press releases, and more.
  • Assist in the development and management of the organization’s external and media communications calendar, coordinating content production schedules and deadlines.
  • Stay informed about non-profit industry trends, competitor activities, and best practices in communications, marketing, writing, storytelling, and corporate communications by continuously seeking opportunities to enhance skills and techniques.
  • Identify story opportunities that engage our audiences in new and effective ways.
  • Manage the intake of multiple communications requests, while adapting messaging to target audiences and mediums.
  • Write clear and engaging content that respects CanadaHelps’ writing and brand guidelines.
  • Assist in the publication process by gathering stakeholder input and approvals and managing French translation.
  • Edit and proofread written materials to ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to brand guidelines and standards.
  • Pitch story ideas and creative ideas for new content initiatives and communications strategies to drive engagement and strengthen our brand presence.
  • Support the pitching of newsworthy stories to the media alongside internal communications teams and external public relations agencies.
  • Support other related communications tasks as needed.
