Description:

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Student, studying in a communications, marketing, english or arts-related program, to join our team in Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta from June to end of August, 2024.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.
The Communications Student should have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and will help us develop company project information sheets. The position will involve interviewing engineers on past, present and future projects, reviewing existing reports to understand our project deliverables, and writing a summary of Thurber’s various projects across the company. The position will also require editing existing project information sheets and transitioning them to Thurber’s new templates.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSETS

  • Enrollment in a post-secondary institution studying Communication, Marketing, English, or a related field in arts.
  • Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word.

Responsibilities:

  • Editing new and existing documents for content and format, ensuring they comply to marketing and communications objectives and Thurber’s Style Guide.
  • Interviewing project engineers to understand and document the nature, scope and impact of Thurber’s new and existing projects.
  • Carrying out other marketing and communications support activities, which may include developing social media and intranet content.
