Title : Communicative Disorders Assistant

Posting Overview :
This is an internal/external posting. First preference will be given to qualified permanent CUPE members.
Reporting to the Supervisor of School Based Clinical and Therapy Services, the Communicative Disorders Assistant will support the speech and language development of students and capacity building in educators using a Multi-Tiered System of Supports framework. Under the direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist, the CDA will provide a variety of direct and indirect language, speech and audiology services within each tier.

Qualifications/Experience :

  • An undergraduate degree/diploma in a related field (e.g. linguistics, DSW, ECE) and a CDA diploma from an approved college is required;

• Membership with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAC) is an asset.

Other Key Skills & Knowledge :

  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate with clients, caregivers, and educators;
  • Superior organizational skills to implement programs for students in various schools;
  • The ability to work independently and as a part of the Speech and Language department and individual school teams;
  • Tact, diplomacy and the need to maintain confidentiality;
  • Knowledge of low tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ACC) devices is an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working in the areas of child language, articulation and phonological awareness is an asset;

• Experience with audiological screening protocols is an asset;
• Creativity, flexibility and efficiency when developing group and individual therapy plans;
• Travel will be required throughout the district.
Position Effective Date & Length :
Temporary, 10-month, 35 hours/week
Rate of pay: Level 4 - $24.83 - $26.34
