Australia is regularly affected by severe weather events. These events are growing in frequency and severity, leading to increased economic impact, vulnerability and potential magnitude of harm.
The focus of the Community Engagement team is to build resilience within Australian communities. As part of the Decision Support Services Program, we work with partners to support communities in preparation for, response to and recovery from disasters and emergencies. We provide specialist advice through knowledge sharing, collaborative action and the development of strong relationships built on mutual trust and respect.
As a Community Engagement Officer you will lead state or territory based community engagement initiatives across planning, reporting and implementation to support the development and delivery of local community resilience building initiatives. The role is a key contact for our priority partners with whom we together focus on engaging communities. You will work closely with the Bureau’s Hazard Preparedness and Response teams to partner, collaborate with and to deeply understand the impact of severe weather events that impact the Australian Community, and the Bureau’s key customers.
The Community Engagement Officer will participate in community engagement strategies and projects lead by the Community Engagement Lead through a portfolio of work aimed at building resilience and knowledge in identified at-risk communities.
